STARTING FRIDAY APRIL 13 - Fridays from 4pm to 5pm we're offering two lattes for the price of one. Our head barista is working on creating some fancy latte art and needs coffee drinking guineapigs. Just mention this post. Short lattes only ^_^
We're gradually extending our trading hours and are now opening at 3pm on Thursday and Friday. Our cooks have been scheming away in the kitchen and have come up with a delicious fresh menu we think will please all palates. It just rolled out this week...click on the "menu" section of the website to check it out. Mars will now be opening every Monday from 3pm, which hasn't happened in llama's years. What's more, we do a weekly dinner special exclusive to Monday - you can get a single course for 12 bux, two courses for 14, or three courses for a piddling 18 bux! And the menu changes each week. Beat the weekend crowd...enjoy a Monday night out with the the thinkers on the hill. This weekend Mars will be supporting "Litre of Light". MyShelter Foundation’s latest venture, it's a sustainable lighting project which aims to bring the eco-friendly Solar Bottle Bulb to disprivileged communities nationwide. Designed and developed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Solar Bottle Bulb aims to simple and easily replicable technologies that address basic needs in developing communities. For the fundraising event in Granville this Saturday, Mars Hill is donating a voucher, and is also helping out by bringing in local artists who have exhibited at the cafe, Colette Walsh, Andrew Norris and Ellen Pope. They have donated artworks to be auctioned at the event. There are some hot new things going on in the coffee industry in Australia as well as worldwide. Being not only one of the the top cafes in the west but also in all of Sydney has made it important for us to track what is happening around the city and in Melbourne. Even before it became big we had begun playing around with single origins, ethical coffee, and alternative brewing methods. Not only is coffee a great social drink, the experience of coffee in different formats is quite social. The ritual of rolling out our cupping table and trying to entice others to taste coffee in a new way has been fun. Tasting the unique flavour notes found in various single origin coffees I have roasted at home or at the cafe has given me a new appreciation for the diversity in coffee and an enjoyment of the variety found in the simple bean. I have reflected quite often about how the cafe has been like my third child. Everything from how it has sometimes acted like a child and need to grow up to how it has tried to steal time from my other two children, not to mention my facebook kids. Part of the process of Mars Hill cafe growing into a mature adult has to do with the idea of, "it takes a whole village to raise a child." It truly has taken a group of parents, hundreds of volunteers, a core paid staff and many other villagers to make The Hill what it is today. Not only what it is today, but what it is going to be in the future. The young adult is beginning to move out into the real world, it is going through some changes, the kids parents are watching from the porch as their child becomes an adult. As with all healthy families, we are always here and are not going anywhere, but it is time to explore, learn, grow and thrive! Hi, we're proud to announce our new website.
